Noises

I wanted to write a poem, but then I thought maybe theres a need for an abstract thought rather than rhyme. So then my TV was on in the background and I could hear this fountain in the distance. And that set forth twirling noisy thoughts in my pretty head. Did you see how I sneaked that in there, sneaky shy smile..
Anyways so back to noise, I have this need for background noise. TV is switched on at my place mostly to drown the disturbing silence, sometimes to watch also and that’s just to create some blasé quiet in my head. But that shall be another post.
So back to noises and I mean noise, not the harmony, not pattern, not enforced but something completely random and just by its nature. That lead me to think, it must be awfully quiet out there in space. Then I looked up does sun make any noise. Turns out Sun actually sings. Complex songs to be precise seems about right for our bright fellow.
But don’t sounds need a medium to be transmitted in. We are lucky to have an atmosphere down here, air water and sunshine. So big bangs might happen and pulsating black holes might eat huge stars. Supernovas sound fantastic on page but in essence just a spectacle for eyes. Without any noise all of it seems more like whimper and not a full fledged cry. After all Darth Vader would never have been ominous without that hissing noise.
So in the end I m glad for my TV, for my upstairs folks moving around, for the fountain in the distance even for that alarm sound I hate the most just for their sound noise they make it much more interesting down here than the uneasy calm with pulsating black holes out there.

You live and learn, at any rate you live..

February second week already, talk about time flying. I started thinking about quality of life. I have lived a good number of years already and have formed quite a few opinions, viewed life from different colored goggles, stood at crossroads at different points of time and many times just slept through, hoping to wake up when ice age would have begun or gotten over..

So that got me thinking, what would define a qualititative life. How and when would I know I have lived enough and fruitfully. What will define this enough, the final peak, that final frontier. Lately I have asked many people this question. How do Everest climbers know this is the peak? What I have seen of mountains is that, they are always in a range, how would anybody know this is the peak and not that other point farther away.

Similarly how would I know in my life I have achieved my peak spiritually, personally, professionally? Like mountains keep growing, life keeps moving the more we explore, the more there is to do. There is no limit physically, mentally or emotionally, you can always push yourself further, do masters, do phd, do post doc then do more research. How and when would I know I have seen enough, lived enough, lead a high quality life.

I really don’t know, I suppose I need some more living and exploring to answer this question. This much lifetime has still not gotten me there yet. Ending with quote from Douglas Adams after a long time” He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.”

Here we go again!

Life has become tough! to top usernames and passwords post, it has become my undoing.. I feel what all those one hit wonders felt like, desperate for the recognition and admiration they know they deserved, but cannot pull three aces again and so here is another attempt for the same elusive glory.

So I have decided there shall be no humor, no sarcasm, no pop culture reference just plain random vague thought. As Christina Aguilera said back to basics (darn u pop culture).

Here we go again! Its Business Time

I used to be a poet once long time ago, in a land far far away.. so another sincere shot at poetry.

It all came back to me again,
Sitting on the terrace chatting for hours
Sweating under the ceiling fan for hours and hours
Life was simple with very few worries
Most of them were what would there be
For breakfast, lunch or a la tea time dare I devours
The creative oh so surprisingly bad Hors d'Oeuvres

Walking under the clear dark night
Debating on alien existence
Watching all passing airplanes
Catching glimpse of meteors
Debating, watching, wishing
Political correctness we not knew thee

Days are still the same
Worries still around food
Nights are almost clear
But things have definitely changed
Maybe it’s the tectonic plates
Somebody told me they moved

Sensual Topic (censored stuff!)

So this topic is all about the five senses and more.. Fooled u into reading this topic dint I! [Smirk!], but read on there is something very vaguely moving here. From kindergarten itself we have been taught that there are 5 basic senses. Sense of touch, smell, taste, hearing and sight Most of our experiences regarding these senses can be categorized as pleasant and unpleasant. Predictably enough unpleasant experiences are the ones we retain for longer. Think about it what pops into your mind, last time u burned your hand or last time u touched something soft.
For the most part most of these senses are very transitory (hang in there, as one wise reader suggested this does go OHT at times, what is OHT u ask, ask the wise reader) I mean lets say we see this awesome scenic place, we are wowed by it (ok I will stop generalizing) I am wowed by it but after some time it looses it wowness factor. Eat something delicious first spoon amaaaazing second spoonful amaaazing third one amaazing fourth one amazing (make note the a's are reducing with each spoonful, learned that trick from Hindi movies, subtleness is for suckers!..). So now u know food is amazing so what next. My point is these senses get fatigued very easily and after the initial thrill it looses the wow factor. Yet and I repeat yet! no matter how easily these good senses get fatigued u keep craving for them. For example I had these baked chips during lunch, not bad, ok kinda but still I kept craving for the real stuff even though my mind knows it’s just a transitory feeling followed by grueling hours of workout in the gym but u still keep craving for the good stuff.
That bring me to my next point, (don’t worry the sensual stuff is coming up really soon) there are so many other senses, for instance sense of craving (which emerges anytime you have diet stuff), sense of anticipation(after a good interview), sense of looming(after a bad interview), deja-vu(every time u end up in a deadlock), sense of belonging(every time India wins world cup), sense of squeamishness(every time u see that roach dancing around), sense of epiphany(every time u see any idol program and realize that’s your calling), sense of daydreaming/overconfidence(every time u see any idol program and realize that’s your calling) I can go on and on and on but here is the final bouncer, the mother of all senses, physical and metaphysical ones, Sense of Fulfillment. I believe Sense of Fulfillment is the driving force in life, for instance u keep eating until u feel you are completely full, this fullness has no bearing on how hungry u r it generally depends on the deliciousness of food. How one keeps running from masters of science to masters of business admin only to realize that, they need a sabbatical to explore the world, for fulfillment.
I would like to quote a short story here a man was walking by a field and saw a farmer resting under the tree. Now this guy goes the farmer and asks, Bhai why r u resting why don’t u work, so the farmer asked how will that help. So this guy goes on and says u will have an awesome harvest (Farmer: then what), u will have more money (Farmer: then what), u can buy more fields (Farmer: then what), you'll be a rich guy (Farmer: then what), Arre bhai u can sit aaram se and rest! so the farmer replied and wat else am I doing right now? So there you have it the driver of all senses: Sense of Fulfillment. So those are my sincerest sensual thoughts for the day (and yea this is the sensual part [smirk... smirk]
